How MorphCam works
From download to live in a few simple steps. This is the complete guide — follow it once, and you'll be set up for good.
See it in action
New to MorphCam? This short video walks you through the whole setup — installing, connecting your virtual camera, and going live. Watch it once and the steps below will make complete sense.
What you'll need
- A Windows 10 or 11 computer (64-bit)
- The MorphCam app installed
- A webcam, or your phone used as a camera (with a free app like Iriun or DroidCam)
- A virtual camera tool: SplitCam or OBS Studio — both are free
- A MorphCam account with credits (you can buy credits inside the app)
Setting up MorphCam
-
Install MorphCam and your virtual camera tool
Install the MorphCam app on your laptop. Then install your virtual camera tool — either SplitCam or OBS Studio. Both are free. SplitCam is the simpler option and works with every app, so if you're not sure, start with SplitCam.
-
Add MorphCam as a source in SplitCam
Open SplitCam. Next to the Media Layers panel, click the + button. Choose Capture Display, then Capture Window. From the list, select 'MorphCam — AI Face Transformation', and click OK. SplitCam will now show your MorphCam app dashboard.
-
Open MorphCam and start a preview
Open the MorphCam app. Choose your orientation — landscape or portrait — depending on how you want your output to look. Then click Preview. Preview mode is free and uses no credits, so you can set everything up without spending anything.
-
Frame your output in SplitCam
Put MorphCam's preview output into full screen — this is the easy way, and it saves you the trouble of cropping. (If you'd rather not use full screen, you can instead use SplitCam's cropping edges to trim the view down to just your output.) The goal is simple: SplitCam should show only your transformed output — not the rest of the app or your raw camera. A reassuring note: your real face will never suddenly appear. Even if your credits run out mid-call, MorphCam shows a 'Connecting…' screen instead of your face — so you're never exposed unexpectedly.
-
Choose your persona and go live
Back in the MorphCam app, stop the preview. Now choose the avatar you want, or write a prompt to describe your persona. When you're ready, click Start. Your AI persona activates and starts running in real time.
-
Select MorphCam in your calling app
Open the app you want to use — WhatsApp, Telegram, Zoom, Google Meet, or any app with a camera. Go to its camera settings and choose SplitCam as your camera. That's it — your AI persona now appears in your calls and streams.
Prefer OBS Studio?
OBS works too, and the setup is almost the same. In OBS, use Add Source to capture the MorphCam app window, and frame your output the same way. The one extra step: in OBS you must click Start Virtual Camera before you open your calling app. Then select the OBS Virtual Camera in that app.
Important: OBS and WhatsApp
OBS does not work with WhatsApp out of the box. If you need OBS to work with WhatsApp specifically, you'll need to install the NDI plugin for OBS. Setting up NDI is straightforward — search YouTube for a quick 'OBS NDI setup' guide and follow along. If you mainly use WhatsApp, the simplest path is to use SplitCam instead, which works with WhatsApp directly.
Quick tips
Always preview first. Preview mode is free — use it to get your framing and persona right before you start spending credits.
Match your orientation. Pick the same orientation (landscape or portrait) in MorphCam and SplitCam so your output fits perfectly.
Full screen is easiest. Putting your output in full screen is the simplest way to get clean framing — no cropping needed.
Your face stays protected. If your credits run out, MorphCam shows a 'Connecting…' screen, never your real face.
WhatsApp users: use SplitCam. It works directly. OBS needs the NDI plugin for WhatsApp.
